An anaphylactic reaction is the overabundant
release of histamines and other mediators causing in
addition to the skin reactions, smooth muscle spasms
and capillary leakage and vasodilation. These can present
with severe throat and tongue swelling, mucus development
within the bronchioles causing severe respiratory distress.
